Client
Meanwood brewery
The Phillips brothers wanted to build an independent brewery rooted in the community they lived in.
Brief
Build a brand for an independent brewery grounded in a genuine sense of community.
Challenges
Limited resources
No prior experience running a creative project (client side)
No clear starting vision
Rationale
To understand how a sense of community is built, I looked at how early civilisations passed down knowledge — primarily through storytelling, where communities gathered to hear tales carried from one generation to the next, most built on a tension between right and wrong. That duality mirrored the brothers’ own dynamic in the business. The illustration style draws on Greek and Latin American mythology, Middle Eastern imagery, tarot and tattoo art — visual languages built for storytelling.
Impact
The brand identity remains in active use today — a strong signal of a system built to last beyond a single campaign.
